An accurate frequency-domain model of water interaction with cylinders of arbitrary shape during earthquakes

Abstract An accurate frequency domain model is proposed to analyze the seismic response of uniform vertical cylinders with arbitrary cross section surrounded by water. According boundary conditions and using variables separation method, modes hydrodynamic pressure are firstly obtained. Secondly, three-dimensional wave equation can be simplified a two-dimensional Helmholtz equation. Introducing scaled coordinate, finite element (SBFE) which linear non-homogeneous second-order ordinary derived weighted residual method. The dynamic-stiffness matrix for problem furtherly derived. continued fraction acted as solution cylinder dynamic interaction infinite coefficient matrices recursively from SBFE dynamic-stiffness. accuracy present method verified comparing force on circular, elliptical rectangle analytical or numerical solutions. Finally, used natural cylinders.
